Favela do Canindé circa 1960. Maria Corolina de Jesus who became famous after writing 'Beyond all pity' (Quarto de despejo) with her editor and actress Ruth de Souza. The whole area was leveled to the ground; Tietê River's many turns were 'corrected' and the automobile won the war. Everything was cemented over and barren sterility prevails now.
