TV Paulista, Channel 5

TV Paulista finally moves from a cramped space on Avenida Rebouças to better facilities on Rua das Palmeiras, 322, in 1957 (Revista do Radio #433).
Abelardo Barbosa aka Chacrinha, recently signed by TV Paulista for a large sum, opens his 'Chacrinha's Discoteque' weekly show on Channel 5, in 1960. A toast is raised by Victor Costa Filho, whose father had sadly died on 22nd December 1959; the lady on the right is Elíria Costa, the widow of the great man. Jamelão, Fernando Costa, Carlos José, Waldyr Azevedo and Genival Filho were the first guests to appear at the first 'Discoteca do Chacrinha'' in São Paulo.

Chacrinha was born on 30 September 1917, in Surubim-PE. In 1939, he moved to Rio de Janeiro-DF where he worked as a speaker at Radio Tupi. Photos & article from Revista do Radio no.583, 1960. 

HOLLY WEEK at TV PAULISTA

TV Paulista's first staging of 'Martir of Calvary' (O martir do Calvário) on Good Friday11 April 1952, the very year the station started broadcasting. Vera Nunes plays some high-classed woman at the court of Pontius Pilate, played by Mota Mercier, while Jesus is played by Carlos Souza.
Two years later, on Good Friday, .16 April 1954, Nicette Bruno presented Alberto Perrini's 'Judas' with herself playing Mary Magdalene, Paulo Goulart playing trecherous Judas, Jorge Azevedo playing the Devil himself, Loris Rangel (Simon), Milton Goulart (Levi), Guilherme Corrêa (Andrew), Alberto Maduar (John) and Walmor Chagas (Corypheus, leader of the chorus). TV Paulista's artistic director directed the play; 'Correio Paulistano', 16 April 1954.
In 1958TV Paulista did something different: it presented Eduardo Garrido's 'O Mártir do Gólgota' (Martir of the Golgotha) at Circo Piolim on 7 different occasions; on Spy Wednesday (2nd), Maundy Thursday (3rd) and Good Friday, 4 April 1958. The place was packed to the rafters by the a crowd that applauded as well as cried at different times. Odayr Marzano played the Martir himself; Paulo Rogério (Judas plus Caiaphas); José Miziara (Pontius Pilate); Lourdes Rocha (Samaritan woman); Gerson Luiz (John); Maria Helena (Veronica) and Renan Alves (Anas). The drama was directed by Osmano Cardoso. 
Trendy theatre director Antunes Filho (1929-2019) starts working at TV Paulista in 1954 (Revista do Radio no.241). 
Álvaro Moya, TV Paulista's artistic director was invited by the US Department of State to visit that country in 1959. Mr Moya stayed there for 4 months and had the chance to see how the TV industry work there having had the chance to learn the ropes of the business at the studios of NBC and CBS's Television City in Hollywood, California. 

Revista do Radio # 494, says Álvaro was impressed with the whole thing but being TV Paulista's teledrama supervisor he particularly interested in 'Playhouse 90', NBC's 'Wide Wide World' and Dinah Shore's 'Chevy Show' which is made in colour and the series 'Gunsmoke' which is the most popular in the US being watched by 50,000,000 people weekly. 
new talent Sylvia Telles sang at Radio Mayrink Veiga in Rio de Janeiro in 1955; in São Paulo, Sylvia performs at TV Paulista (Revista do Disco no.32). 
11 October 1957 (A Gazeta Esportiva) - José Castellar' 'A última conquista' an adaptation of José Castellar with Lucy Meirelles, Lucy Rangel & Anita Morandini beamed on Saturday at 9:00 pm; on the right: Carlos Alberto de Nobrega gets a haircut while discussing some work with Canarinho (Revista do Rádio, 1957). 
Producers Elio Tozzi, David Conde & José Catellar brain-storm an idea to apply it to 'Café Concerto' in 195721st October 1958 - Castellar also produced 'Hit Parade', a very popular show where music was played live orchestrated by Osmar Milani, Guerra Peixe, Waldemiro Lemecke, Rubem Perez aka Pocho & Silvio Tancredi for the likes of Hebe Camargo, Cleia Soares and many others.
